Description
Radium Engineering catch cans utilize large 10AN ORB inlet and outlet ports, a 4AN ORB drain port, advanced two-step internal oil separation baffling, and an O-ring sealed dipstick for quick inspection. Both catch cans are completely sealed and operate as closed-loop systems, meaning they do not vent to the atmosphere. This makes them emissions compliant, track legal, and prevents oil vapors from entering the cabin.
Each catch can function independently, allowing precise oil separation from both the PCV and crankcase ventilation systems. By removing oil mist, fuel vapors, and sludge before gases are recirculated into the engine, the system helps maintain cleaner intake air and promotes negative crankcase pressure for improved performance and consistency.
PCV Catch Can Function & Fitment
The PCV catch can installs inline with the factory PCV valve and retains full OEM functionality. Under idle, cruising, and deceleration conditions, the system experiences metered vacuum, which would normally draw oil vapor and contaminants directly into the intake manifold. The Radium sealed catch can safely handles boosted conditions, allowing direct manifold connection while effectively capturing harmful contaminants.
This PCV catch can mounts on the front left core support near the radiator and is used on both Ford Focus ST and Focus RS turbocharged EcoBoost engines. For Focus ST applications, installation requires a sound symposer delete kit, such as the Radium 20-0356, or an equivalent alternative for proper clearance.
CCV Catch Can Function & Fitment
The crankcase ventilation (CCV) catch can mounts on the rear left-hand side of the engine bay and installs inline with the crankcase breather port. During low-load operation, the system experiences near-atmospheric pressure, but under high load and wide-open throttle conditions, it manages high-volume crankcase flow. Without proper separation, this flow would introduce oil into the intake piping and intercooler, reducing thermal efficiency and overall engine performance.
